Learn from our expert, Dr. Anthony Kane who will share his own experiences at summer camp related to his personal journey of belonging. Together in this webinar our attendees will find the inspiration and motivation to cultivate a sense of belonging amongst campers this summer that will create a safe, and quality experience for all.

Dr. Anthony Kane Jr. is an experienced Student Affairs professional with critical expertise in belonging, social/emotional counseling, and student development. Currently, Anthony serves as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Saint Vincent College.

Camping and leisure activities are important for all of us, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This webinar will begin to identify the benefits of having children with ASD and their peers in an inclusive camp setting. We will explore how a camper with ASD might think and introduce a practical peer program called “PAWSS” to support the social interactions at camp. Strengths and challenges of serving campers with ASD will be problem solved and myths will be discarded.

Learner Objectives:

1. Have an increased understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
2. Be introduced to the “PAWSS” Peer Program to support social interaction at camp.
3. Name three simple ways to support individuals with ASD at camp.
4. State two benefits that campers and staff will experience by including people with ASD into camp.

Since the onset of COVID-19, researchers have expressed considerable concerns about the state of our individual and collective well-being. Studies suggest challenges across all generations. Given these trends facing the camp community, the Alliance for Camp Health surveyed camp health care providers and directors to provide clarity on next steps and discoveries to reshape our future. Presenters in this session will share preliminary findings from this survey and provide participants with evidence and stories of the MESH experiences of youth and staff in a national, representative sample of camps. In this training from Redwoods, you'll learn the elements of peer abuse and how to prevent this from happening at your camp.  In the scenario that it does happen, you'll learn the appropriate way to respond. 

The training follows a story of sexual abuse from the eyes of a child. Madison, a fictional character based on a real event we handled, tells us her story through journal entries. In this training, we’ll teach staff the basics of how to prevent child sexual abuse. And because effective prevention requires an organization-wide culture of safety, we focus on rule breaking, and how to stop it from happening.

This course is specifically for individuals in Texas.

This course will equip you with essential risk management skills to best create a safe experience for your campers.   

We want all employees to embrace safety in a true sense of keeping ourselves and others safe at all times. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. A safety mindset requires an organization to instill a culture of safety among all employees. This means not only creating policies but making sure your practices meet your policies every single time.

Drowning and spinal injuries at swimming pools and aquatic areas are some of the most traumatic and costly events any program can face. The trauma is not restricted to the child who is injured or dies, but encompasses the family, lifeguards, facility staff, and community. A death or injury claim involving drowning can result in multi-million dollar awards and significant, undesirable media attention.  This three-course package is being offered in collaboration with Redwoods. Each title is twelve to thirty minutes in length. 

Child sexual abuse and inappropriate contact with children is a pervasive problem that must be managed in a pro-active manner if we are to protect those in your organization’s care. We want to help you keep your campers safe by equipping your staff to best create safe communities for all.  This eight-course package is being offered in collaboration with Redwoods.
